This centre is better thought of as a museum, dedicated to preserving the history of this corner of Georgia. Its artefacts and historic buildings date back 11,000 years, and include a wooden cabin built in the eighteenth century that was once the home of an important leader of the Cherokee nation, White Path. Next to it is a historic blacksmith shop, while inside exhibition spaces include one called the Land of Promise, which tells the story of the people of the region from its earliest times to the present day. There’s also a folk-art gallery, and the Northeast Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.

The Northeast Georgia History Center is dedicated to preserving and sharing our regional history and being our community’s pathway to history education. Through our educational programs, community events, exhibits, and historic structures, we strive to be a leading resource for promoting a greater understanding of local, state, and national history. During your visit you’ll tour an 18th-century cabin once home to Cherokee tribal leader White Path, experience hands-on history through our kid-friendly interactive exhibits, learn little-known stories of the region’s past, and get up close to hundreds of artifacts. We can’t wait to share this wonderful region’s history with you! Be sure to join us for our free Family Days every second Sunday of the month during the academic year. The Northeast Georgia History Center’s on-site educational programs provide students and teachers with a fun and memorable learning experience. All programs are designed to meet Georgia Standards of Excellence and include pre- and post- visit resources and lesson plans.
